Having an understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder is essential for service providers working with system impacted youth and their families. A child with Sensory Processing Disorder may exhibit behaviors that are similar to ADHD, Attachment Disorders, Trauma Behaviors and others and therefore sensory integration challenges may be overlooked. When misunderstanding and misdiagnosis occurs, the service provider misses an essential piece of the treatment puzzle for the child with SPD. This course describes SPD, offers information regarding referral resources, helps the service provider to distinguish between sensory behaviors and play themes, and provides insight into challenges parents or caregivers may experience in relating to a child with SPD.
