This training will explore working “relationally” in community-based mental health. As humans, who are also mental health providers, we are already inevitably in some relation to our clients. Our ability to connect with others is part of our professional care. However, given that our connections with youth and families are specific – we have a particular role – and unusual – usually time-limited, tied to a setting, and more boundaried, it can be helpful to move beyond only relying on intuition or impulse. This training will bring thoughtfulness and intention to relational psychotherapy, case management, crisis or short-term care, and clinical supervision. While there are likely many ways to take up “relationships,” we will do this from a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic lens in this training.
