Training Summary: Helping foster youth create a coherent narrative that encompasses their history, challenges, current strengths and resources and hopes for the future is an important part of working with foster youth and their families.
This training will provide an explanation of and experience with the creative activity of The Tree of Life This tool can help foster youth and their families develop a better understanding of their identity and resources including; past roots and current life experience, skills and abilities, past and future goals and strengths and support systems.
Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training)
1. Understand the value of using the Tree of Life for both assessment and treatment purposes.
2. Learn to use the Tree of Life with youth, families and individual caregivers.
3. Understand how using expressive art activities like the Tree of Life gives clients the flexibility to process and express their feelings in ways other than talking about it.
Participants will be able to:
1. Participants will be able to understand how the Tree of Life can help clients get a bigger picture of where they have come from and the challenges they have faced and overcome.
2. Participants will be able to add the Tree of Life to their repertoire of art behavioral strategies
