More than 23,000 children will age out of the US foster care system every year, with many facing houselessness, unemployment, a lack of adequate healthcare, and more. Youth who also live with disabilities have different needs as compared to their able-bodied peers, and the support they need to be able to navigate the world as they transition out of the child welfare system is lacking: many of the youth living with disabilities have not been supported in practicing asking for or using the accommodations they need. The lack of understanding, empathy, and support for youth with disabilities is compounded by other identities, including race and age. Young people in the foster care system need more to be supported in living happier, healthier lives in which they can thrive. In this workshop, part 1 of a 2-part series, participants will be introduced to the foundations of oppression with a focus on ableism, racism, and youth oppression. Attendees will learn how we all internalize systems of oppression and will be challenged to consider how we can dismantle this socialization and decolonize our thinking, utilizing the cycle of oppression framework. *Please register for the second part of this training on March 25th: https://training.abetterwayinc.net/courses/2871
