This course is for White professionals working with system involved youth and families addressing Internalized Oppression. Internalized Oppression is a pervasive internalized racist structure replicated within the BIPOC community as a direct result of institutional racist structures within society. Understanding the impact and nuanced differences for BIPOC and what Whites may experience as internalized oppression is an important factor in service delivery to our youth and families. The main points of the training are:
- Provide an overview of the importance of providers tracking their somatic responses to internalize oppression,
- Identify how the provider’s internalized oppression and privileges effect conversations with youth and families,
- Provide space for the provider to identify three behaviors to shift to increase support to families challenged by internalized oppression.
