This course is for White professionals working with system involved youth and families addressing Internalized Oppression. Internalized Oppression is a pervasive internalized racist structure replicated within the BIPOC community as a direct result of institutional racist structures within society. Understanding the impact and nuanced differences for BIPOC and what Whites may experience as internalized oppression is an important factor in service delivery to our youth and families. The main points of the training are:
  • Recognize somatic response in challenging engagement,
  • Identify own oppression and privileges brought to conversations with youth and families,
  • Identify three behaviors to shift to support in families in challenges of internalized oppression.
The trainer will present videos, facilitate conversation, host break out reflections and conversation to illicit learning of impact of internalized oppression within the self, and internalized racism within community, economics, school and participants will discuss impact upon system involved client population of youth and families.
