This course is for Black professionals working with system involved youth and families addressing Internalized Oppression. Internalized Oppression is a pervasive internalized racist structure replicated within the Black community as a direct result of institutional racist structures within society. The main points of the training are:
  • Recognize somatic response in challenging engagement,
  • Identify own oppression and privileges brought to conversations with youth and families,
  • Identify three behaviors to shift to support in families in challenges of internalized racism.
The trainer will present videos, facilitate conversation, host break out reflections and conversation to illicit learning of impact of internalized racism within the self, community, economics, school and participants will discuss impact upon system involved client population of youth and families.
