A traumatic event can result in resilience or maladaptation depending on the individuals environmental support (intimate relationships, friendships, family), genetics and epigenetics, brain functioning, and the timing of the traumatic event. If the individual presents with maladaptive behavior, diagnostic impression can be confusing and result in misdiagnosis or multiple diagnoses. This presentation will explore the overlap of symptoms between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with other DSM-5 diagnoses. Special emphasis will be given to how this impacts court dependent children & youth.
