Participants will learn how to evaluate, address and treat children and teens who are encountering grief and loss. In this workshop, we will demonstrate through theory, case studies, and practice how the grief and loss can be addressed in therapy. Using the Oaklander Model of Gestalt Play Therapy, participants will learn how to apply the theory and technique of projective interventions, with multiple media such as projective cards, drawings the sandtray, etc. and how to modify them when necessary, to honor diversity and be inclusive of all the clients we serve. Oaklander’s approach, employed by therapists worldwide in dozens of cultural contexts, is particularly suited to exploring and extending both the connectedness and the individuality of each person that experiences grief. In this training Karen Fried, Psy.D., M.F.T, will show participants, through a blend of theory and hands-on experience, to use this remarkably adaptable Oaklander Model to work with grief and loss.
