In order to meet the needs of children and youth in the foster care system who have a mental health diagnoses, it is important to know and understand the criteria of DSM diagnoses. In this course we will cover commonly seen diagnoses in system involved youth including depression, anxiety, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, ADHD, disruptive and impulse control disorder, and substance use disorders. Case vignettes and participants’ cases will be used to apply knowledge taught in the class.
