This 2-part presentation provides participants with a general overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as provides an understanding on how to identify areas of impairment associated with ASD and addresses the main challenges students with ASD face. In addition, participants will learn proactive strategies to best support learning and gain an understanding of a child’s individual needs (i.e. social, emotional, communication, sensory, executive functioning). In part 2 of this training, participants will gain an understanding of behavior escalation and as well as reactive strategies in managing challenging behavior. In Part 2 of this training, participants will be given an opportunity to practice proactive and reactive strategies in breakout groups.
