A traumatic experience can be an overwhelming experience that can truly impact an individual’s life and affect many of their life domains. Whenever our life is threatened, we may question ourselves and others, we may lose our sense of trust with the world, and we may have difficulty managing important areas of our life. Therefore, can you imagine how such an event impacts the life of a child? Children are considered a vulnerable population as they are still dependent on adults to care and nurture them. Children are in the critical process of developing, getting to know themselves, and understand the world around us. It is vital and essential that they have a secure and reliable environment that supports them in thriving and becoming an adult that is confident and has an overall satisfaction with life as well as themselves. However, as traumatic experiences occur throughout a child’s life, it threatens a child’s ability to cope, develop well in some areas, and feel secure in the world. In this training, participants will gain a basic understanding of trauma and how it impacts children, including in areas such as development, behavior, and overall well-being.
