Training Summary: A traumatic experience can be an overwhelming experience that can truly impact an individual’s life and affect many of their life domains. Whenever our life is threatened, we may question ourselves and others, we may lose our sense of trust with the world, and we may have difficulty managing important areas of our life. Therefore, can you imagine how such an event impacts the life of a child? Children are considered a vulnerable population as they are still dependent on adults to care and nurture them. Children are in the critical process of developing, getting to know themselves, and understand the world around us. It is vital and essential that they have a secure and reliable environment that supports them in thriving and becoming an adult that is confident and has an overall satisfaction with life as well as themselves. However, as traumatic experiences occur throughout a child’s life, it threatens a child’s ability to cope, develop well in some areas, and feel secure in the world. In this training, participants will gain a basic understanding of trauma and how it impacts children, including in areas such as development, behavior, and overall well-being. Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training) 1. Participants will be able to review a general understanding of trauma 2. Participants will be able to review, at least, 3 ways in which trauma impacts child development and overall functioning of a child. 3. Participants will be able to identify, at least, 5 trauma informed interventions and strategies, that can be applied in service delivery, that support youth and children in becoming engaged in services as well as begin their healing journey to reducing trauma symptoms. Participants will be able to: 1. Participants will be able to be prepared work with children from a trauma-informed lens 2.
