This training will focus on the specific ways the body reacts to traumatizing events in two critical areas: the fight-flight mode (arousal system) and the connections foster youth have with others (attachment system). We will consider the ways in which trauma disrupts these systems and discuss possible resolutions. We will also consider shifting from “what is wrong with you” to “what has happened to you” and the impact this can make when thinking about resolutions for organizational trauma in working with system involved youth. We will begin to discuss the important trauma-informed principles of safety and stability, and compassion and dependability.
