Setting boundaries is usually seen as a practice to secure one’s time, but boundaries are also essential for the well-being of support provider and the system involved youth and families served. Committing to supporting system-involved youth can sometimes mean attempting to pour from an empty cup. Efforts to pause for wellness may conjure feelings of guilt or shame. This training contains didactic and interactive elements to walk providers through the process of establishing boundaries to avoid or reduce the risk of vicarious traumatization, compassion fatigue, and elevated risks of stress. In addition, modeling boundaries setting teaches this important skill to system involved youth and families which will help improve their outcomes.
