Power dynamics and privilege can be barriers to both establishing and maintaining a relationship with system-involved youth and their families. It’s crucial for social service and care providers to acknowledge the privilege they have and how it can affect their care and work. Without this awareness, we may not fully understand the challenges and obstacles system-involved youth and their families have and are experiencing. Youth and their families may also passively go along with our recommendations because we hold the power in the relationship. Join us as we explore power and privilege in working with system-involved youth and their families.
