Power dynamics and privilege can be barriers to both establishing and maintaining a relationship with system-involved youth and their families. It’s crucial for support providers to acknowledge the privilege they have and how it can affect their ability to engage and help system involved youth and families. Without this awareness, we may not fully understand the challenges and obstacles system-involved youth and their families have and are experiencing. Youth and their families may also passively go along with our recommendations because we hold the power in the relationship. Join us as we explore power and privilege within efforts to support system-involved youth and their families.
