Training Summary: Domestic violence/interpersonal violence is a growing concern in the United States so it’s essential for mental health and social service providers to understand what it is, how to recognize warning signs and how to support individuals in a violent relationship. This training will provide an overview of domestic violence/interpersonal violence include a history of it in the United States and an overview of groups at heightened risk for domestic violence/interpersonal violence. Participants will learn how to conduct a risk assessment and safety plan for someone in an abusive relationship and how to support them whether they are still in an abusive relationship or have recently gotten out of one.
Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training)
1. Identify at least 1 type of interpersonal violence
2. Conduct a risk assessment with a client in an abusive/violent relationship
3. Create a safety plan with a client in an abusive/violent relationship
Participants will be able to:
1. Provide culturally informed care with clients in an abusive/violent relationship.
2. Apply the Stages of Change model with individuals in an abusive/violent relationship.
