From overcoming traumatic life events to succeeding in the face of oppressive systems, the children and adolescents in our lives are superheroes worthy of their own summer blockbusters. Like every hero, they benefit from having supportive sidekicks by their side. This is where we come in: the caregivers, pediatricians, social workers, clinicians, teachers, and others that provide support to our heroes. But is it possible to fight alongside our heroes and come out unscathed? This presentation will look at what it means for us to be sidekicks, how our roles place us at risk for vicarious trauma, and how establishing a self-care routine can help us become “good enough”.
