This training covers the foundations of disproportionality and racial bias in schools. Leaning on research that Dr. Payne conducted in Oakland, this training outlines how Black students are targeted through a biased set of assumptions & values through a ‘coded language of bias’ which is a root cause of disproportionate discipline. Dr. Payne closes the second half of the training talking about effective strategies in the classroom, school and district that supports teachers, clinicians, and most importantly, Black students’ success.
