As participants develop rapport and assessing for the youth’s presenting needs, more nuanced relational dynamics begin to emerge. Foster youth are often reserved in their openness to communicate vulnerabilities and needs. However, as trauma content begins to surface between youth and providers or caregivers, those supporting youth may find themselves struggling to navigate their own emotional reactions. This training provides strategies for managing secondary and vicarious trauma in work with foster youth.
