Sharing life stories can be a powerful exchange and tool for supporting client needs and growth. Drawing on the field of Oral History, in this workshop participants will explore storytelling as a work strategy. Owning our own narratives is power. Amplifying stories excluded from dominant narratives can be a tool for change-making. Learn how to cultivate and facilitate this strategy to deepen connections with clients and each other. Through the workshop, we will explore the questions: What stories do I have to tell? What do I need in order to feel safe or bold to share those stories? How do we translate that to clients? How can storytelling offer a path forward in our work? In this day-long workshop, participants will explore storytelling as a tool to connect with themselves, colleagues, and clients, both within and across difference. Attendees will have a safe space for examination of our own narratives and how to engage with others to identify and share their own stories. Through a lens of socialization into systems of oppression, participants will explore individual and collective ways to support clients, colleagues, and communities through story.
