This training series will support participants to expand their understanding of somatic strategies within a social and political context. Participants will experience somatic
exploration and increase access to the fullness of their humanity while examining the ways that systems of harm have led to our collective disembodiment. Through this exploration, participants will identify all that is available to us when we move towards embodying our anti-racist and liberatory values. By using embodied activities, journal reflections, discussion, and art, participants will deepen their understanding of the ways that somatic practice, vulnerability, and collective care, contribute to our healing as service providers while also impacting our work with young people.
Class Objectives:
– Define what somatic practices means
– Understand how our somatic responses impact our actions, behaviors, and choices
– Increase understanding of how somatic practices support us in living out our values related
to anti-racism and equity
– Explore how the things we practice become habitual and embodied
