With increasing awareness of systemic oppression, more people than ever are willing to engage in conversations about racism, sexism, and other forms of inequality. However, many find themselves at a loss for how to effectively navigate these conversations, especially when they involve interrupting harmful behaviors or addressing bias in real time. Social workers face this challenge not only with their colleagues but also with the youth and families they serve. This workshop is designed to provide social workers with the tools they need to engage in difficult conversations about oppression with confidence and skill. Participants will learn practical techniques for navigating dialogues around privilege, bias, and microaggressions in ways that foster growth and accountability rather than defensiveness. The session will also focus on how to effectively interrupt moments of oppression when they arise, ensuring that these interactions lead to learning and transformation. By the end of the workshop, social workers will have the tools necessary to facilitate dialogues that honor the dignity and humanity of all participants, while promoting deeper understanding and social change.
