Training Summary: SOGIE is something everyone has! SOGIE is one’s sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Part One of this two-part series will focus on building background knowledge of identities and experiences, reflection on participants’ own identity development, and introducing inclusive practices for working with youth and families. This session will lay the groundwork for Part Two which will focus more on therapeutic, educational and advocacy interventions for supporting SOGIE-diverse youth and their families. The training will provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions and begin thinking about how they could apply supportive practices. Special attention will be paid to working with children ages 10 and older and their families. The learning will take place in workshop format with the use of presentation, reflection, interactive dialogue and exploration. Participants will be able to: -Explain and differentiate between basic definitions for sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and gender expression. -Increase comfort in discussing gender identity and sexual orientation development. -Name two inclusive practices related to SOGIE that they can incorporate into their work.
