SOGIE 101 will include an overview of SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression) in which we will define these categories, discuss appropriate language to use when talking about SOGIE, and explain pronouns, with specific focus on gender-neutral pronouns. This training will also look at how SOGIE intersects with systems such as mental health and foster care; how to be trauma-informed when working with LGBTQ youth; how to make your organization LGBTQ affirming; and how to intervene when your LGBTQ youth are being mistreated based on their SOGIE.
This training is interactive and participants should be prepared to move their bodies within their means and be prepared to learn concepts and terminology that may be new to them. By the end of SOGIE 101, participants will have cultivated a set of tools
around having courageous conversations regarding their own SOGIEs, as well as those of their clients, build upon their understanding of queer and trans terminology and assess the personal frameworks they hold when addressing SOGIE issues.
