This purpose of this training is to support providers in better understanding the impacts of grief during the pandemic and to increase their ability to support youth and families in their care. Grief is a central theme in the lives of system involved youth whether it be due to death or transition in living situations. This training aims to better prepare providers to initiate their own self care and self compassion practice in order to better support grieving children and youth.

The main points that will be covered include:
  • Self-Compassion: What is it and why it is important;
  • How has processing grief has been impacted by the circumstances caused by the pandemic;
  • Tips on how to implement self-compassion during the pandemic.
Activities and discussion will support providers to reflect on their own response to grief during the pandemic. Participants will dialogue about how to increase self-compassion as a skill with which to cope with difficult times, like a loss, and be able to be take care of ourselves while taking care of others and how to help youth and families increase their own self compassion as well.
