This webinar will explore play & art-based activities and techniques for engagement, rapport building, and assessment with children ages 6-17. We will review the goals & concepts of attunement, attachment, co-regulation, assessment, and the importance of the therapeutic relationship. Participants will learn child & adolescent friendly ways to explore important content areas during the case planning phase, including: activities & interests; school; friendships & peer relationships; self-awareness & feelings; home situation & family relationships. Participants will have the opportunity to explore many of these play & art-based assessment activities experientially.
Workshop content will be applicable to social workers that work with grieving youth & families in the child welfare system and/or probation system because the techniques presented in this workshop can be utilized and adapted for work in a variety of settings and with individuals and families. Children in the child welfare system may understandably be more hesitant talk with or trust an unfamiliar social worker & a strong background attachment, engagement & rapport building can support social workers to connect with children in the welfare system.
