This training provides a power-point presentation, with time for questions and discussion during and following each topic. Topics will include a review of new legislation affecting healthcare providers and their patients including new rules affecting licensure and training, access to records, gender issues, mandated reporters, drug prescribing and involuntary treatment. Also, information will be provided on the new 42 CFR Part 2 substance use disorder confidentiality regulations that became effective on March 21, 2017 and February 3, 2018. We will also review HIPAA and State law privacy and confidentiality issues, and minor consent, mandated reporting and Tarasoff “duty to warn,” and 5150 issues. Finally we will review “hot topics” in the news and how individual free speech may trigger ethical concerns related to dual relationships and boundary issues.
