Many LGBTQ+ youth experience unique vulnerabilities and increased risk factors when it comes to commercial sexual exploitation (CSE), and yet this intersection is often overlooked by individuals, systems, and studies. In this training, we will first review some basics around sexual orientation and gender identity & expression (SOGIE) and then consider what is known about this population, particularly their disproportionate experiences with homelessness, family rejection, prior abuse and trauma, stigma, and low self-image, and how these relate to CSE. We will also look at what can be done on an individual, programmatic, and systemic level to increase awareness and improve how these youth are supported. This training utilizes didactic lecture, review of research, reflection, and activities.
