The purpose of the training is to introduce and teach all the basic skills and spirit of Motivational Interviewing (MI). Participants will learn MI by doing MI in practice. We will explore what the research has taught us about what gets in the way of helping to facilitate change, as well as what facilitates change. Participants will deepen their knowledge about what MI is and isn’t, as well as deepen a number of practice skills used in MI. MI is appropriate for use with youth in a number of settings including child welfare, probation, health and mental health settings and his been widely used and studied around a range of behaviors that yough engage in (substance use, self harm, school, smoking, health, self-care, eating disorders etc.
