By power point presentation, trainer will cover the basics of internet usage for parents of children of any age. Trainer discusses how easy it is for children to access any information/websites – deliberately or not. Trainer will discuss parental controls for devices used by children in their home or outside of the home. Trainer will give information, via examples, about internet predators and scam “artists” as it pertains to children – and why children (especially foster youth) are more vulnerable to predatory behavior and scams. Trainer gives examples of ways parents can teach children about safety when using the internet. Trainer will facilitate discussion among the participants – contemporary scam attempts and what participants have done with the attempted scam. Trainer will provide information about controls schools have in place on devices issued to students for distance learning and how these same controls can be put in place for other devices the children may have access to. Lastly, trainer discusses what parents should do if they feel like they themselves or children in their care have become the victim of a scam, or attempted predation.
