Though groups can be challenging to plan and lead, they also offer great possibilities for learning and growth, some of which are unavailable through individual interventions. For youth from the child welfare system, group work provides youth and families the opportunity to reduce social isolation and stigma, while providing the chance to practice skills in an engaging and empowering format. Moving through the group process can be very rewarding in itself, besides whatever content is covered. Though there are many rewards to group facilitation, there are logistical challenges particularly for those whose modality is primarily one-on-one, and when gathering is difficult even for individual interactions. Behavioral issues can also arise.

In this interactive workshop, we will highlight ways to maximize benefits of this important modality, strategizing around the various challenges to successful implementation. Come learn and share ways to develop and sustain groups as an important part of our child welfare system of care.
