A significant challenge faced by many practitioners serving System Involved Youth is establishing an open system of communication about dissonant feelings and emotional experiences. Individuals infrequently have knowledge and understanding of what emotions are nor have the ability to effectively interpret emotional experiences. Giving individuals basic knowledge of emotional wellbeing creates an opportunity to establish a system to communicate effectively about emotional experiences and subsequent behaviors. Foundational knowledge of emotional wellbeing will be redefined and reframed to directly apply to system involved youth. Techniques and practices will be shared for supporting system involved youth in understanding, interpreting and communicating about emotional experiences, dissonant feelings and trauma. Interactive and experiential techniques will be explored and demonstrated.

Participants will be asked to actively participate physically and to engage in role play scenarios to apply techniques and develop experiential skills. This course is interactive and not advised for passive participants. Active participation is required for participants to fully develop the techniques and skills in this course and for the success of the role play participation section of this course.
