This 2-hour training will focus on current research on the reasons youth self-harm and explore evidence−based treatment types to support the decrease in self-harm behaviors, with a special consideration for the unique needs of system-involved youth. Attendees will: -Discuss how to balance risk assessment with client empowerment, taking a harm reduction stance when appropriate. -Review effective means of engaging caregivers whether it involves needing to break confidentiality for safety or supporting clients in voluntarily sharing their selfharm to enhance safety and build a supportive environment. This training is designed to provide practical strategies for clinicians working with diverse youth populations, including those involved in child welfare, juvenile justice, or other complex systems.
