Schools are often one of the first places where the challenges of system involvement show up and where opportunities for advocacy can create lasting impact. This training is designed to support school-based providers in strengthening their advocacy skills to better navigate educational systems with youth and families. In this training, the facilitator will provide information that will explore the range of school-based services available, from special education supports (IEPs, 504 Plans) to general counseling, behavioral, and mental health services. Participants will learn practical strategies to partner with caregivers and educators, centering collaboration as a pathway to equity and access. The training highlights ways to prepare caregivers for meetings, uplift their voices in school settings, and build bridges with teachers to support student’s academic, social, and emotional goals. Grounded in collective care, this session emphasizes advocacy not just as an individual skill but as a tool for creating more supportive ecosystems for system-impacted youth.
