Mental health providers working with children need a diagnostic and treatment framework to distinguish behaviors potentially being indicative of impact of past traumatic experiences or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or interplay of both. At this presentation, participants will be helped to better describe the criteria used to diagnosis ADHD and PTSD, including familiarity with common diagnostic tools and interventions. This will include addressing when and how medication could be helpful to young children, as this is an area that is often met with some reluctance among parents and providers alike. With knowledge taken away from learning objectives, participants will be able to apply this information to case examples from their own practice and be better equipped to work collaboratively with medical providers on behalf of young children and their families.
