Online Training

This training is a basic overview of positive discipline. The purpose of discipline is to teach a child right from wrong, as well as responsible behavior at home and in the community. A foster child may require greater understanding and guidance given their background. Thus, Resource Parents need to accept them as they are in the present, and not as they wish to see them in the future. The trainers will provide suggestions for determining an effective means of discipline for a child, how to reduce power struggles, and inform caregivers on the differences between punishments vs. consequences. This training will give examples for effective and thoughtful consequences, as well as emphasize the use of “natural” consequences. Caregivers will be able to share about what techniques have best worked for them and learn additional tools to utilize within the home.
