With an increased perception of threat/stress, one can respond with hyperarousal, dissociation or a combination of hyperarousal and dissociation (flight, flight of freeze). This course will assist child welfare professionals working with system-involved youth and families in understanding the complexity of these responses and the behaviors that can be observed with these different responses. One’s preferred mode of response develops in the context of relationships. This workshop will also focus how one ‘s sense of self, others, and relationships are created within a social engagement system. The information presented in this course will assist participants in understanding presenting behavior concerns and inform assessments and guide treatment plans.
