Many of the systems youth and families of color find themselves having to be involved with create invisible barriers and obstacles for their success. Traditional case management strategies don’t always work with these communities. As case managers and service providers our ultimate goal is to support clients but our practices are built within oppressive systems and we need to work on unlearning some of these ways of work to truly engage and create positive impact.

This training focuses on decolonizing strategies that promote change, empowerment and liberation when working with systems involving youth. We will begin to identify the barriers and dynamics that allow oppression to continue and we will explore how empowerment-based theories recognize and assist communities of color as they engage in services.
