Engaging with systems is challenging for youth and families of color. They often find themselves having to meet the demands of these systems in order to get the support they need or exit systems they don’t want to be a part of. Traditional Case Management creates a lot of barriers to engagement and does not always connect with the participant’s lived experience and assets. In this training, we will explore strategies and theories that can be used to engage participants in support that promotes change, empowerment, and liberation. We will explore empowerment-based theories and practices that meet participants where they are while engaging in practices of unlearning.
