This highly experiential webinar draws from the fields of cognitive behavioral play, yoga, mindfulness, and expressive arts. We will explore creative strategies and activities for psychoeducation and intervention with children and teenagers ages 6-17 who experience anxiety. We will review important information about children and adolescents with anxiety, including ways to incorporate parent support. Participants will learn child & adolescent friendly ways to provide therapeutic support to their clients, including: developmentally appropriate psychoeducation, strategies to foster a calmer nervous system, externalizing the problem, and building a repertoire of effective coping tools.
Workshop content will be applicable to social workers that work with anxious youth & families in the child welfare system and/or probation system because the techniques presented in this workshop can be utilized and adapted for work in a variety of settings and with individuals and families. Children in the child welfare system often experience anxiety due to past life circumstances, as well as uncertainty about the future. This workshop can support social workers to give children and teens in the welfare system helpful tools to manage their anxiety in healthy ways.
