Annette Rankin, LMFT – Early childhood trauma has the potential for lifelong impact on physical and mental health. For children admitted to Short Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTP), it is vital for caregivers to have a clear understanding of the impact of trauma so that clients can benefit from this knowledge with the goal of finding healing, growth, and to limit trauma-impact on daily life.

Through a combination of lecture, experiential exercises, video clips, group discussion, this training will explore the neurobiology of trauma to understand how trauma manifests in individuals, families, communities and systems. Participants will learn strategies for supporting clients and themselves within the context of the STRTP. The training will include strategies for talking with clients and families about trauma, working with trauma in the moment, as well as strategies for self and coworker care when working with trauma.
