More than 23,000 children will age out of the US foster care system every year, with many facing houselessness, unemployment, a lack of adequate healthcare, and more. Youth who also live with disabilities have different needs as compared to their able-bodied peers, and the support they need to be able to navigate the world as they transition out of the child welfare system is lacking: many of the youth living with disabilities have not been supported in practicing asking for or using the accommodations they need. The lack of understanding, empathy, and support for youth with disabilities is compounded by other identities, including race and age. Young people in the foster care system need more to be supported in living happier, healthier lives in which they can thrive. In this workshop, part 2 of a 2-part series, participants will build upon their knowledge from the previous workshop by examining the roles they play in systems of oppression within the foster care system. Attendees will also learn and practice using tools to better support the youth and colleagues they work with, paying particular attention to tools they can use to interrupt systems of racism, disability, and ageism in the child welfare system. *Please register for the first part of this training on January 20th: https://training.abetterwayinc.net/courses/2868 *
