How do we utilize methods of Trauma Informed Care while adjusting to meet the needs of those who have experienced intergenerational Racial Trauma? The first steps are understanding the concepts of trauma-informed care and of intergenerational trauma. This interactive workshop will explore the history of Intergenerational Trauma experienced by Black, Indigenous and People of Color and how to shift perspective to consider the many impacts of Complex Racial Trauma (Cénat). We will further explore how to adapt a trauma-informed approach with folks to ensure we resist re-traumatization. Finally, what role or responsibility do we as caregivers have to be in a process of self-reflection around our own implicit or explicit collusion in systemic racism within the social service and mental health fields in order for us to be their fully authentic selves?
