This training will highlight the building of social-emotional skills through free resources and books that can support our teen aged children in developing the skills they need to identify emotions, recognize the size of emotions and to regulate their emotions in times of stress and uncertainty and when they have “big emotions.” A wealth of tools and resources will be presented in this 2-hour training to help educators, parents and professionals to be able to walk away with more tools on supporting children in developing social and emotional literacy. Teenagers have what is called the “trifecta” of unique barriers that can keep them in their “survival and high emotional” brain. They have hormone changes, then they have brain pruning of neurosynaptic connectors and finally the third is their desire for independence and a unique identity. You will also learn unique ways to support teens during this time that is typically called the time of “brain storming”.

Concepts covered are:
  • Learn the neurobiology of the brain and behavior,
  • Identify how stress, novelty and uncertainty can cause challenging behavior,
  • Emotional Literacy,
  • Self-Awareness,
  • Identifying Size of Emotions,
  • Promoting Self-Regulation Strategies.
