During this course presenter will review in depth the basic care and precautions while caring for infants in the foster care system. Presenter will review the best sleep practices, new crib standards, crib recalls, safety hazards and how they affect a safe sleeping environment. Presenter will demonstrate the proper way to feed and burp a new born baby and how to make certain the infant is consuming the proper amount. Participants will review basic diaper rash symptoms and how to properly treat and prevent rashes. Presenter will review teething, infant development stages and milestones, well baby checkups, and immunizations. Information regarding SIDS and shaken baby syndrome will be reviewed.

Objectives:
  1. Participants will understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment for infants in the foster care system. How to ensure a safe sleeping environment through using appropriate cribs and other infant furniture. Presenter will learn new crib standards, crib recalls, safety hazards.
  2. Participants will gain better understanding of Infant Illness and Disease Awareness. Define shaken baby syndrome. Define sudden infant death syndrome.
  3. Identify two factors that increase the risk of sudden infant death.
  4. Identify two ways parents and caregivers can try to prevent sudden infant death.
  5. Participants will learn infant developmental stages and milestones. Preparing parents to provide appropriate care and supervision to infants and toddlers.
