This introductory training is to support caregivers within learning environments to enhance their advocacy skills. The course focuses on building participants’ knowledge of learning environment services for youth with special needs, including both modified coursework/plans and general support services (counseling, behavioral support and health services). Learn strategies to effectively partner with caregivers and instructors to create a collaborative support system for system-impacted youth. Gain practical tools to help caregivers navigate learning environments, prepare for engagement and advocate for their youth’s needs. Develop strategies for collaborating with instructors to support youth in care in achieving their goals. The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).
