This training is geared toward working with children, youth, and families who are involved in child welfare, juvenile justice, and other related systems. Due to the nature of their involvement with these systems, it is expected that these youth and families may be experiencing crises on a regular basis and will need support from their care team members to respond to and diffuse the crisis at hand. While each provider may have specific legal requirements and tasks in responding to particular crises, this training is intended to explore individuals’ unique responses to crisis and how that can enhance (or get in the way of) the sustainable support they offer to their various clients during times of emergency. Effective crisis communication and de-escalation techniques will be explored and practiced, including child and family team collaboration within the contexts of their roles as helping professionals. Participants will also be given an overview of various crisis resources available in the community they serve.
