This course equips child welfare professionals with foundational knowledge and actionable strategies to address grief and loss among system-involved youth and families. Participants will explore the multifaceted impact of grief on children, families, and professionals, emphasizing understanding developmental, cultural, and situational factors influencing grief responses. Through interactive discussions and scenario-based activities, the course examines strategies for supporting system-involved youth who experience ambiguous losses, death, and other significant disruptions. Participants will learn to recognize signs of unresolved grief, foster resilience, and apply strengths-based approaches that respect each child’s unique experiences.
